What are Amazon marketing services?

Amazon marketing services are the work that gets products found and bought on Amazon: keyword research, listing and A+ Content optimisation, Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display ads, Brand Store design and performance reporting. Digital Magma’s Amazon marketing services combine Amazon SEO and advertising, so organic rank and ad spend support each other instead of competing for the same sales.

Why people still say “AMS”

Amazon Marketing Services, or AMS, was the name of Amazon’s self-serve advertising console until September 2018. That month Amazon merged its ad businesses under one brand, Amazon Advertising, which it now calls Amazon Ads. Ad Age covered the rename on 5 September 2018. Sellers and many agencies kept using “AMS”, so the old name still gets searched. Today it usually means one of two things: Amazon’s ad products, or an outside team that runs your listings and ads for you. This page covers the second.

Sellers, vendors and why this is search work

Sellers list and price their own stock in Seller Central. Vendors sell wholesale to Amazon through Vendor Central, and Amazon sets the retail price. Both can advertise. Either way, most shoppers start with a typed query, and Amazon decides which products to show from relevance and past sales. That makes an Amazon store closer to a search engine than a catalogue, which is why search skills carry over.

Is it time?

Amazon marketing services: signs your listings and ads need expert help

Amazon marketing help pays off when the account has demand but leaks it somewhere between the search result and the checkout. These are the patterns we see most in audits.

Ad cost rising, sales flat

ACoS creeps up each month while total orders stay the same. Usually the ads are buying sales you would have got organically.

Rank drops when ads pause

Organic position on your main terms falls within weeks of cutting spend. Ad-driven sales were propping up the ranking.

Suppressed listings

Products vanish from search because a title, image or attribute breaks a rule. Seller Central flags them, but nobody is checking.

Featured Offer lost

Resellers win the Buy Box on your own brand, so your ads send traffic to someone else’s offer.

Low conversion

Plenty of sessions, few orders. The images, bullets or price do not answer what shoppers want to know.

No A+ or Brand Store

You are brand-registered but still show a plain text description. A+ is free and most competitors use it.

Stock-outs

Running out of stock kills sales velocity, and ranking takes weeks to recover after you restock.

New marketplace plans

You sell on amazon.in and want the UK, UAE or US next, but do not know how listings and ads should change.

When not to hire anyone yet: if your margin after Amazon’s fees is too thin to pay for any advertising, fix pricing or sourcing first. If the account has open health problems or policy warnings, resolve those with Selling Partner Support before spending on growth.

Organic rank

Amazon SEO: how products rank in Amazon search and Alexa for Shopping

Amazon SEO comes down to two questions the search engine asks about every product: is it relevant to this query, and do shoppers buy it when they see it? Amazon does not publish its ranking formula. “A9” and “A10” are informal names sellers use, so be wary of anyone who claims to know the exact weights.

What sellers can see is the inputs. Relevance comes from the title, bullets, backend search terms and attributes. Performance comes from click-through, conversion and sales velocity over time. Price, stock and delivery speed matter, because a product that cannot ship fast is a poor answer. Reviews and ratings feed click-through and conversion.

Backend search terms, by Amazon’s rules

Backend terms go in the Generic keyword field. Amazon’s help page on search terms (checked 29 September 2026) says the field stops accepting text at its byte limit, and that spaces and punctuation are not counted for length. It bans brand names (yours or anyone else’s), ASINs, temporary words such as “new” or “on sale”, and subjective claims such as “best”. It also asks for no repetition and either singular or plural forms. Amazon may ignore terms it judges irrelevant. So we use this field for synonyms, spelling variants and abbreviations that do not fit the visible copy.

Alexa for Shopping, the assistant in the search bar

On 13 May 2026 Amazon launched Alexa for Shopping for US customers. It brings Rufus and Alexa+ together into one assistant inside the main search bar of the Amazon Shopping app and website, free to any signed-in customer. Amazon says Rufus helped over 300 million customers in 2025. For product questions such as “is this machine washable?”, Amazon’s seller help page says the assistant uses information from the product’s detail page.

That line is the practical takeaway. If your listing does not state the dimensions, materials, compatibility or use case, the assistant has nothing to say about it. We write bullets and A+ modules that answer the questions shoppers ask, and we fill in every relevant attribute.

Detail pages

Amazon listing optimisation: titles, images, A+ Content and Brand Store

Amazon listing optimisation is where ad budgets are won or wasted. A good listing converts the traffic you pay for, and a weak one makes every click more expensive. Here are the rules we build to, taken from Amazon’s own seller help pages in September 2026.

Titles: 75 characters

Amazon’s product title page says titles must not exceed 75 characters, including spaces, and must not repeat the same word more than twice. The page applies the rule in all stores except Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Türkiye and the UAE. Details that no longer fit can go into a new Item highlights field, which adds 125 characters shown below the title. Amazon’s suggested order: brand, style, product type, key attribute, colour, size or pack count, model number.

Main image rules

The main image needs a pure white background (RGB 255, 255, 255), with the product filling 85% of the frame, shown once, whole and uncropped. No badges such as “Best seller”, no Amazon logos, no text. Images need at least 500 pixels on the longest side, and 1,000 or more turns on zoom. Amazon recommends at least six extra images and one video per product.

Bullets that answer questions

At least three bullets, each starting with a short header and a colon, then the detail. Amazon asks sellers to avoid unverifiable claims, competitor comparisons, guarantees, emojis and words such as “eco-friendly” without substantiation. Character limits vary by product type, so we check each category.

A+ Content, basic and Premium

A+ is free for brand owners on ASINs registered to their brand. Amazon’s A+ guide lists five modules for basic A+ and seven for Premium, which adds video, hotspots and carousels. It says there are no additional eligibility criteria for Premium. Review can take up to seven business days, so we plan launches around it. The brand story carousel holds up to 19 cards.

Brand Store structure

A Brand Store is a free, multi-page shop inside Amazon for brand-registered sellers. We organise it by how people shop, such as “for small kitchens” or “gift sets”, rather than by internal SKU codes. Each Sponsored Brands campaign lands on a relevant Store page, and we tag outside links so you can see which traffic source brought each visit. The design team behind our website design work builds the Store layouts.

Localisation by marketplace

A listing that works on amazon.com needs edits for the UK, Canada or Australia: “colour”, “aluminium”, metric sizes, local plug types and local search words (“jumper” and “sweater” are different searches). On amazon.ae we check whether an Arabic listing is worth adding for the category. On amazon.in, Hinglish and regional product names often appear in search terms reports, and we test them in the backend field.

Sponsored ads

Amazon PPC management: Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands, Sponsored Display and prompts

Amazon PPC management at Digital Magma follows one rule: every campaign has a job, and we judge it by that job. Discovery campaigns find search terms, performance campaigns make money on proven ones, and defence campaigns protect your brand name.

Sponsored Products

Cost-per-click ads for single products, on search results and product pages, open to professional sellers, vendors and KDP authors. The product must qualify for the Featured Offer. You can pick keywords and products to target, or let Amazon target automatically. Amazon Ads says Sponsored Products campaigns with video saw 67% higher click-through and 9% higher conversion than campaigns without it.

Sponsored Brands

Ads for brands enrolled in Brand Registry, in video, image and collection formats (up to three products), placed above, beside or inside search results. Billing is by click or by viewable impressions (vCPM). A fixed-price reserve share of voice option for top of search needs a minimum commitment. Good for new-to-brand shoppers and for defending your brand name.

Sponsored Display

Amazon Ads now presents Sponsored Display as part of its wider display ads offering, and says existing campaigns keep running in Campaign Manager. It reaches shoppers on Amazon, including the home page, and across Amazon properties and other sites. We use it mostly to bring back product page visitors and to appear on related product pages.

How we structure an account

  • Auto campaigns run on low bids to discover the search terms shoppers really use
  • Manual campaigns in exact, phrase and broad match take the proven terms, with their own budgets
  • Product targeting puts your ASINs on competitor and complementary product pages
  • Brand defence keeps rivals off searches for your own brand name
  • Negative keywords are harvested weekly, so the same wasted term is never paid for twice
  • Dynamic bids (down only, or up and down) and top of search adjustments set per campaign goal

Sponsored prompts: ads inside the conversation

Sponsored Products and Sponsored Brands prompts are an AI-powered add-on to existing campaigns that engages shoppers with product information, shown in shopping results and on product pages. Amazon Ads opened them in beta in November 2025 and made them generally available in the US on 25 March 2026. Eligible campaigns are enrolled automatically, clicks are charged within normal CPC billing, and a click may open the shopping assistant or answer on the page.

Each ad group has a Prompts tab in the Ads console with impressions, clicks and orders. We check it monthly and pause prompts that misdescribe a product. Planning ahead? A $100 daily budget can spend up to $3,100 in a month, by Amazon’s own maths, so sale weeks such as Prime Day (23–26 June 2026 in the US) need budgets raised before the event, never mid-day.

Running Google or Microsoft ads to your own site? That is covered on our PPC services page.

Worldwide

Amazon marketing services worldwide: the six marketplaces we cover

Digital Magma provides Amazon marketing services on six marketplaces, run remotely from Noida, with calls scheduled around each market’s working day. Each store has its own currency, search language and sale calendar.

Amazon’s Global Selling page (checked 29 September 2026) lists stores across four regions. The Americas: US, Canada, Mexico and Brazil. Europe: the UK, Germany, Spain, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden and Turkey. Asia-Pacific: Japan, India, Australia and Singapore. Middle East and North Africa: the UAE, Egypt and Saudi Arabia. It says one North America and Brazil unified account reaches the US, Canada, Mexico and Brazil, and one Europe account reaches customers in 28 countries.

We work on the six stores in the table. For brands in other stores, we can review listings and advertising in English but will tell you plainly where a local-language specialist would do better.

Selling abroad from India

Many Indian brands export through Amazon Global Selling to the US, UK or UAE. The marketing side is our job: which products to test first, how listings must change and what ad budget a launch needs. Tax registration (sales tax, VAT or GST), import rules and product compliance are the seller’s responsibility, and we do not give tax advice.

Digital Magma logs its Amazon marketing services task by task, so you can see what changed in your account each week. The first month is set-up. After that, the monthly list looks like this.

  • Onboarding: audit report, break-even ACoS sheet, keyword map per ASIN and a listing rewrite plan
  • Weekly: bid changes, negative keywords, budget pacing and new search terms moved into manual campaigns
  • Listings: one or two tests a month on titles, main images or A+ where traffic allows a fair read
  • Rank tracking: organic position for your priority terms, tracked in search results alongside Brand Analytics query data
  • Risk flags: suppressed listings, lost Featured Offer and products close to running out

Benchmarks and maths

Amazon advertising benchmarks: what a good ACoS really is, and how to work it out

Amazon advertising has no universal “good ACoS”. The right number is set by your margin, and the market figures below are context, never targets. Here is the maths we use on every account, followed by the market data we trust.

The four formulas

ACoSad spend ÷ ad-attributed sales
TACoSad spend ÷ total sales (ads plus organic)
ROASad sales ÷ ad spend, which is 1 ÷ ACoS
Break-even ACoSprofit before ads ÷ selling price

Worked example (illustrative numbers)

A product sells for $30. Landed cost is $9 and Amazon’s fees for this example total $10.50, leaving $10.50 profit before advertising. $10.50 divided by $30 is 35%, so the break-even ACoS is 35%. Above 35%, every ad sale loses money. If you want $3 profit per unit after ads, the target ACoS is $7.50 divided by $30, or 25%.

Now the account view. Say ads cost $2,000 in a month and bring $8,000 in ad sales: ACoS 25%, ROAS 4.0. If total sales were $20,000, TACoS is 10%. A falling TACoS while ACoS holds steady usually means ads are lifting organic sales too. A rising TACoS with flat total sales means you are paying for orders you would have got anyway.

Fees differ by category, size and fulfilment method. Use Amazon’s own fee figures for your products.

Skai, “Q2 2026 Quarterly Digital Trends Report” (released 28 July 2026, nearly 1 trillion impressions and $10 billion of activity on its platform across retail media, search and social). Jungle Scout, “State of the Amazon Seller 2025” (survey of nearly 1,500 sellers, 10–27 January 2025). Checked 29 September 2026.

Why we do not print an “average ACoS”: the published averages we found come from firms that also sell Amazon ad management, with no sample size shown. A single number would also hide the real spread. A launch product can run above break-even on purpose to build sales history, while a mature best-seller should sit well under it. Skai’s retail media figures span all retailers on its platform, so read them as direction, not a target.

Categories

Amazon marketing by category: what changes by product type

Amazon marketing changes a lot by category, because the rules, the questions shoppers ask and the competition all differ. These are the adjustments Digital Magma makes most often.

Jewellery and gemstones

Accurate colour and scale in images, certification and material details in bullets, and care guidance in A+. Trust decides the sale here.

Home and kitchen

Comparison charts across sizes and finishes, dimensions in every listing, and lifestyle images that show the product in a real room.

Beauty and personal care

Ingredient information in the right attribute fields, careful claims, and review insight to spot shade or skin-type complaints.

Health and supplements

Some categories need Amazon’s approval before listing, and health claims are tightly limited. We write within those rules and flag anything that needs your compliance team.

Electronics and accessories

Compatibility is the top question, so model numbers, ports and “works with” details go in the title, bullets and attributes.

Apparel and footwear

Size charts, fit notes and model photos cut returns. Amazon’s image rules set how shoes and clothing must be shown.

Pricing

Amazon marketing services cost: fees, ad spend and what changes the quote

Amazon marketing services cost three separate things: Amazon’s own selling and fulfilment fees, your ad spend, and the agency fee. Digital Magma quotes its fee after the free account review, because two brands with the same budget can need very different amounts of work.

Amazon SEO vs Amazon PPC, and agency vs in-house: which does what?

Buyer’s guide

Amazon marketing agency checklist: how to choose one safely

The right Amazon marketing agency grows sales without putting your seller account at risk. Amazon suspends accounts for review manipulation and policy breaches, so safety comes before speed. Use this list with anyone, including Digital Magma.

Green flags: look for these

  • Asks for access through Seller Central user permissions, never your password
  • Sets ACoS targets from your margin, not from an average
  • Shows you search terms and placement reports as well as totals
  • Knows the rules of your marketplace and category
  • Tells you what it cannot control: stock, price and product quality
  • Puts scope, fee and notice period in writing

Red flags: walk away from these

  • Paid, swapped or incentivised reviews (only Vine and Request a Review are safe)
  • A “guaranteed Best Seller badge” or guaranteed rank
  • Keyword-stuffed titles that break the length and repetition rules
  • Asking for your login and one-time passwords
  • Locking your data inside their own tools
  • A hidden markup on your ad spend

Questions to ask any Amazon agency

  • What is my break-even ACoS, and how did you work it out?
  • How will you split discovery, performance and brand defence budgets?
  • How often will you add negative keywords?
  • What will you change on my listings before spending more on ads?
  • How do you get reviews without breaking Amazon’s rules?
  • Who works on my account, and what have they done before?
  • Which marketplaces have you worked on, and in which languages?
  • What happens to my campaigns and data if we stop working together?

On access: Amazon’s User Permissions let the primary account holder invite others with limited rights, on the Professional plan. You never need to share a password. Read more about Digital Magma.

What to expect

Amazon marketing results: what to expect in 30, 60 and 90 days

Amazon marketing results arrive faster than Google SEO, because ads start on day one and ranking follows sales. Stock, reviews and price still set the ceiling, and no agency controls those alone.

Days 1–30

Fix and gather data

Audit, listing fixes, new campaign structure, first negatives and a clean baseline of ACoS and TACoS.

Days 31–60

First movement

Organic rank shifts on priority terms, wasted spend drops, and A+ goes live after Amazon’s review.

Days 61–90

Scale what works

More budget to proven terms, Sponsored Brands and Display added, and new products or stores tested.

Month 4+

Compounding

Reviews build, TACoS settles, and sale events use the sales history built earlier.

Reporting

Amazon marketing KPIs: what Digital Magma tracks and reports

Digital Magma’s Amazon marketing services reports open with profit and total sales, then explain the metrics behind them. Each metric below has a reason to be in the report.

Avoid these

Amazon marketing mistakes: 10 errors that cost sellers rank and margin

Amazon marketing mistakes tend to repeat from account to account. These ten come up in most of the audits Digital Magma runs.

1. Advertising a weak listing

Ads amplify conversion. A listing that converts poorly just loses money faster with more traffic.

2. One auto campaign for everything

Discovery and profit need different bids. Mixing them hides which terms make money.

3. Judging ACoS without margin

A 30% ACoS is great on a 45% margin and a loss on a 25% margin.

4. Pausing ads on best-sellers overnight

Sales drop, then organic rank follows. Reduce in steps and watch rank.

5. No negative keywords

Irrelevant terms keep spending every day until someone blocks them.

6. Running out of stock

Stock-outs undo months of rank. Stock planning is marketing on Amazon.

7. Keyword-stuffed titles

They break Amazon’s length and repetition rules, and can be rewritten or hidden from search.

8. Skipping A+ after Brand Registry

A+ costs nothing and gives room for comparison charts and answers.

9. Copying US listings to other stores

UK, UAE and Australian shoppers use different words, units and sizes.

10. Believing two myths

“More reviews at any cost” risks suspension. “Amazon SEO is only keywords” ignores conversion, which drives rank.

FAQs

Amazon marketing services: frequently asked questions

What are Amazon marketing services?

Amazon marketing services cover the work that gets products found and bought on Amazon: keyword research, listing and A+ Content optimisation, Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display ads, Brand Store set-up and reporting. Digital Magma runs them as one plan, so listings and ads support each other.

What was Amazon Marketing Services (AMS), and is it the same as Amazon Ads?

AMS was the name of Amazon’s self-serve ad console until September 2018, when Amazon merged its ad businesses into Amazon Advertising, now Amazon Ads. The products carried on under new names. People still say “AMS” for Amazon’s ads, or for agencies that run them.

How much do Amazon marketing services cost?

Digital Magma quotes Amazon account management on scope, after a free review. The price depends on ASIN count, marketplaces, ad types, creative needs and your starting point. Ad spend is separate and billed by Amazon to you. Amazon’s own selling fees are separate again.

What is a good ACoS on Amazon?

A good ACoS is one below your break-even ACoS, which equals your profit before ads divided by the selling price. A product with a 35% margin breaks even at 35% ACoS. Launch products may run higher on purpose, while mature best-sellers should sit well below break-even.

What is the difference between ACoS and TACoS?

ACoS divides ad spend by ad-attributed sales, so it measures ad efficiency. TACoS divides ad spend by total sales, ads plus organic, so it shows how much the business depends on ads. Falling TACoS with steady ACoS usually means ads are lifting organic sales.

How do I rank higher in Amazon search?

Make the listing relevant, then prove it sells. Relevance comes from the title, bullets, backend search terms and attributes. Proof comes from click-through, conversion and sales velocity, which ads can speed up. Keep stock available, price competitively and build reviews through Vine or Request a Review.

Do I need Brand Registry for A+ Content and Sponsored Brands?

Brand Registry is required for both. Amazon’s Brand Registry is free and needs a pending or registered trademark from a country with an Amazon store, plus your brand name on the product or packaging. It also opens up Brand Stores, Brand Analytics and Vine.

Is Amazon PPC worth it for a new seller?

Amazon PPC usually is worth it for a new product, because a listing with no sales history rarely ranks on its own. Start with a small automatic campaign to find search terms, make sure the listing converts, and set a daily budget you can afford to learn from.

Which Amazon marketplaces do you work on?

Digital Magma works on amazon.com, amazon.in, amazon.co.uk, amazon.ae, amazon.ca and amazon.com.au. We adapt language, units, pricing and sale calendars for each one. For other stores we can review listings and ads in English and will say when a local specialist fits better.

Can you help an Indian brand sell on amazon.com, amazon.co.uk or amazon.ae?

Digital Magma helps Indian brands plan Global Selling launches: which products to test first, localised listings and launch ad budgets. Registration, tax, import rules and product compliance stay with the seller and their advisers, since we do not give tax or legal advice.

How does Alexa for Shopping (formerly Rufus) choose products?

Amazon has not published how Alexa for Shopping ranks products. Its seller help page says that for product questions it uses information from the product’s detail page. So complete attributes, clear bullets and A+ that answers real questions give it more to work with. It launched for US customers on 13 May 2026.

Will I keep ownership of my Seller Central account?

You keep full ownership. We work through the user permissions you grant in Seller Central and the Ads console, and never ask for your password. If we stop working together, you remove our access and everything stays in your account.

How long does it take to see results on Amazon?

Ad traffic starts in the first days. Wasted spend usually drops within the first month, and organic rank on priority terms tends to move in the second and third months as sales build. Stock, reviews and price can speed this up or hold it back.

Do you manage Amazon DSP?

Digital Magma does not run Amazon DSP campaigns. We focus on listings, A+ Content, Brand Stores and Sponsored Products, Sponsored Brands and Sponsored Display, which is where most brands get the best return first. Once those are profitable, we can talk through whether DSP is worth exploring.

Do you also manage Flipkart or other marketplaces?

Digital Magma works on Amazon only among marketplaces. For your own online store we offer ecommerce digital marketing, SEO and Google Shopping ads through our PPC services.
