What are local SEO services?
Local SEO services are the work that makes a business show up when nearby customers search: Google Business Profile optimisation, consistent name, address and phone listings, reviews, local pages and local links. Digital Magma provides local SEO services worldwide, so single-location and multi-location businesses win map pack rankings, calls and visits.
The map pack
The local 3-pack: three businesses with a map, stars, hours and a call button, shown above the blue links for most searches with local intent.
Google Maps and the local finder
The full list a searcher sees after tapping “More places”, or when they search inside the Maps app itself.
Local organic results
Normal website listings for queries like “family lawyer in Leeds”, where your service and location pages compete.
AI answers
AI Overviews, ChatGPT, Gemini and Siri, which now name businesses when someone asks for a recommendation nearby.
Three kinds of search trigger local results. “Dentist near me” carries implicit location, so Google uses the phone’s position. “Plumber in Leeds” names the place. “Emergency vet open now” adds time. Each needs slightly different work, and a good local SEO plan covers all three. It also depends on your business model. A storefront business (a café, a clinic, a shop) serves people at its address. A service-area business (a plumber, a cleaner, a mobile mechanic) travels to customers and hides its address on Google. Both can rank, but the set-up differs, and getting it wrong is one of the fastest routes to a suspended profile.
Signs you need it
Local SEO services: who needs them and the problems they fix
Local SEO services pay off for any business whose customers live, work or travel within a few kilometres of it, or of the areas it covers. Clinics, law and accounting firms, trades, restaurants, shops, schools, coaching centres, coworking spaces and B2B offices all fit. These are the six problems we are asked to fix most often.
You are missing from the map pack
Competitors show for “near me” and you appear only on the second screen of the local finder. The usual causes are a weak primary category, thin services and too few recent reviews. See the profile fixes.
Calls from Google have dropped
Profile calls fell after a move, a new phone number or a quiet edit by someone at Google. We compare the profile history with your listings and find the break. See NAP clean-up.
Duplicate or wrong listings
Two profiles for one office, an old address on Apple Maps, a closed branch still showing as open. Duplicate listings split your reviews and confuse Google about which one to trust.
Few or old reviews
A 4.2 average from 11 reviews, the newest a year old, will usually lose to a 4.7 from 140 recent ones. See how we grow reviews within the rules.
Weaker rivals outrank you
Better service rarely wins by itself. The rival with worse service may simply have the right category, a keyword-rich real name or an address closer to the searcher. We show you which of these you can change.
You show in the wrong city
Your pin sits in the wrong place, or your service area was set to a whole state. Rankings then spread thin. Fixing pin and area settings is often the quickest win in the whole project.

The expert section
Google Business Profile optimisation: the core of local SEO
Google Business Profile optimisation is the single biggest lever in local SEO, because the profile is what appears in the map pack. In Whitespark’s 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors survey, the primary GBP category ranks as the number one factor for map pack and Maps rankings.
Choosing it is harder than it looks. Google’s own guidelines say to pick categories that complete the statement “This business IS a” rather than “this business HAS a”, and to use the fewest categories it takes to describe the core business. A dental clinic that also sells whitening kits is a “Dentist”, not a “Cosmetics store”. Digital Magma checks which category the top three rivals use for your main search, then test secondary categories one at a time so we can see what each change does.
Business name. Use your real-world name only. Adding “Best Plumber London” to it can lift rankings for a while, which is why so many spammers do it, but Google’s guidelines are blunt: “Including unnecessary information in your business name isn’t permitted, and could result in the suspension of your Business Profile.” Digital Magma never does it, and we report rivals who do through Google’s official redress form.
Address or service area. Service-area businesses hide the address and set the areas they cover. Hybrid businesses, such as a locksmith with a shop, can show both. Google also states that a virtual office “isn’t eligible for a Business Profile”, and P.O. boxes are not accepted.
Hours. “Business is open at time of search” is the number five factor in Whitespark’s 2026 survey. Accurate hours, special hours for holidays and, where it is true, longer opening times all feed straight into rankings.
Services, products, photos, posts and Q&A. Services tell Google what you do in your own words, and Whitespark found keywords in GBP services rose sharply in importance this year. Photos show you are real. Posts keep the profile active. Q&A lets you answer the questions people ask before calling.
Verification and suspension. When a profile is suspended, Digital Magma checks it against the guidelines first, fix whatever broke them, collect proof (signage photos, a utility bill, a business licence) and file the reinstatement request through Google’s official form. No agency can promise reinstatement, and we will tell you if the profile breaks a rule that cannot be fixed, such as a virtual office.
How it works
Local SEO ranking factors: how Google picks the map pack
Local SEO rankings rest on three factors Google names in its own help centre: relevance, distance and prominence. Google also states: “There’s no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google.”
Relevance
In Google’s words, “how well a Business Profile matches what someone is searching for”. Categories, services, the description and your website pages drive it.
Distance
“How far each business is from the customer who’s searching.” If the searcher shares no location, Google uses what it knows about where they are.
Prominence
“How well-known a business is.” Reviews, links, articles, directory listings and your wider web presence all count.
The top five individual factors in 2026
Whitespark surveys local SEO specialists every year and ranks individual factors for the map pack. The 2026 top five are the primary GBP category, proximity of the address to the point of search, keywords in the GBP business title, a physical address in the city of search, and whether the business is open at the time of search. Two of those five (proximity and address) are about where you are. That is why Digital Magma is honest about limits from the first call.
| Factor | Can we influence it? | How |
|---|---|---|
| Primary category | Yes | Research and testing |
| Proximity to searcher | No | You cannot move the business. We target nearby areas where you can win |
| Keywords in business name | Only by a real rebrand | Never by stuffing the name |
| Address in city of search | Only if you open there | Real branches get real profiles |
| Open at time of search | Yes | Accurate and complete hours |
| Reviews and rating | Yes | Ask every customer, reply to every review |
| Links and citations | Yes | Local links, clean NAP |
Whitespark’s 2026 report also notes that review signals and behavioural signals (clicks, calls, direction requests) gained the most importance this year. Source: whitespark.ca/local-search-ranking-factors.
Consistency
Local SEO citations, NAP consistency and location pages
Local SEO citations (often called local citations) are mentions of your name, address and phone number (NAP) on other sites, such as directories, maps apps and industry listings. When they disagree, Google and AI assistants trust your details less.
Citation audit and clean-up
Businesses that have moved, changed numbers or rebranded usually carry years of old data. Digital Magma finds every listing, fix the errors at the source, and remove or merge duplicates. The order matters: data aggregators and the big platforms first, then country directories, then niche sites. Chasing hundreds of low-quality directories adds little. A clean set of the listings that matter does more.
Location pages that pass the swap test
A good location page would read as wrong if you swapped the city name for another. It has the real address, a map, directions from nearby landmarks, parking or transport notes, the staff who work there, photos of that branch and FAQs local customers actually ask. One template with only the city name changed is a doorway page, and Google treats it that way.
LocalBusiness schema
Digital Magma adds structured data in JSON-LD with the correct subtype (Dentist, Plumber, LegalService and so on), address, geo coordinates, opening hours and areaServed. The hours in the schema must match the hours on the profile. We validate every page in the Rich Results Test.
On-page basics
Title tags with the service and place, a click-to-call number, fast mobile pages checked in PageSpeed Insights, and internal links from service pages to location pages. The technical side of this is covered in depth on our SEO services page.
Reviews
Local SEO reviews: how to get more without breaking Google’s rules
Local SEO depends on reviews more than on almost any other signal after the profile itself, and customers read them closely. BrightLocal’s Local Consumer Review Survey 2026 found that 97% of consumers read reviews for local businesses, 89% expect owners to respond, and 31% will only use a business rated 4.5 stars or more, up from 17% a year earlier.
The rules are strict. Google’s policy on fake engagement says merchants must not “offer incentives – such as payment, discounts, free goods and/or services – in exchange for posting any review”, and must not “discourage or prohibit negative reviews, or selectively solicit positive reviews from customers”. That rules out review gating (sending only happy customers to Google), discounts for reviews, staff review quotas and buying reviews. Google says incentivised or biased reviews are not allowed and will be removed from Maps.
What does work, and what Digital Magma sets up for every client, is dull and effective. Ask every customer, at the moment they are happiest, with a short link or QR code that opens the review box directly. Follow up once. Reply to every review, positive or negative, within a few days. Handle complaints calmly and in public, then fix the cause offline. Review velocity (a steady flow each month) matters more than one big burst.
If you are dealing with fake reviews, a review attack or a damaging search result, our online reputation management team handles that as a separate project.
Worldwide
Local SEO platforms we optimise, country by country
Local SEO starts with the same three platforms in every country: Google Business Profile, Apple Business Connect (for Apple Maps and Siri) and Bing Places (for Bing and Microsoft Copilot). After that, each market has its own directories and review sites that customers and AI tools both read.
| Market | Main directories and review sites | Industry examples | More detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Everywhere | Google Business Profile, Apple Business Connect, Bing Places | Facebook page, industry associations | This page |
| USA | Yelp, BBB, Nextdoor | Healthgrades (clinics), Avvo (lawyers) | SEO in the USA |
| UK | Yell, Thomson Local, Trustpilot | Checkatrade (trades) | SEO in the UK |
| UAE | Yellow Pages UAE, Dubizzle (services) | Apple Maps matters for iPhone-heavy audiences | SEO in the UAE |
| Canada | Yelp.ca, YellowPages.ca | Provincial and trade associations | SEO in Canada |
| Australia | Yellow Pages Australia, True Local | hipages (trades) | SEO in Australia |
| India | Justdial, Sulekha, IndiaMART | IndiaMART for B2B suppliers and manufacturers | SEO in India |

Business models
Local SEO for multi-location, franchise and service-area businesses
Local SEO for a business with many branches or no storefront follows the same rules as for one shop, applied with more discipline. Most problems Digital Magma fixes here come from shortcuts taken years ago.
Multi-location businesses
Every real location gets its own profile and its own page on the website, linked from a store locator. Each profile links to its own page, not the homepage. Categories may differ by branch if the services differ. Reporting is split by location, so you can see which branch needs attention.
Franchises
With Digital Magma, the brand controls the name, the core categories and NAP formats in one master sheet. Local managers handle what they know best: photos, posts and review replies. We set the rules, train the local teams and audit them monthly so a single branch cannot damage the brand.
Service-area businesses
Plumbers, cleaners, movers and mobile services hide their address and list the areas they cover. Google allows one service-area profile per business unless separate locations have separate staff and areas. We write area pages only for places you really work, with real jobs and photos from each one.
Addresses that get suspended
Google’s guidelines say a virtual office is not eligible for a profile, P.O. boxes are not accepted, and an office in a coworking space qualifies only with clear signage and Google’s other conditions met. Fake addresses to rank in a new city are the most common reason multi-location profiles vanish overnight.
Industries
Local SEO services by industry
Local SEO services change shape by industry, because people search for a dentist differently from how they search for a plumber. Digital Magma plans each campaign around the query types that matter most in each group.
Healthcare and clinics
“Dentist open Saturday”, “physio near me”, “emergency GP”. Hours, reviews and correct practitioner listings decide bookings. More in digital marketing for healthcare.
Trades and home services
“Emergency plumber”, “AC repair near me”, “welder [town]”. Mostly service-area profiles, where the number of calls is what counts. See local business marketing.
Restaurants and retail
“Open now”, “best biryani near me”, “shoe shop [area]”. Photos, menus, products and busy-time data drive clicks. For online stores, see ecommerce marketing.
Education and coaching
“IELTS coaching near me”, “play school [area]”. Parents compare reviews and visit before they enrol. See digital marketing for education.
Professional services and property
“Family lawyer [city]”, “chartered accountant near me”, “estate agent [area]”. Trust signals, practitioner profiles and niche directories carry weight. See real estate marketing.
IT and B2B offices
“Software company in [city]”, “IT support [area]”. Fewer searches, bigger deals, and city pages that often win in organic results. See SaaS and B2B marketing.
AI search
Local SEO for AI search: getting recommended by ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews
Local SEO now has to reach AI assistants as well as the map pack. BrightLocal’s 2026 survey found that use of ChatGPT and other AI tools for local recommendations rose to 45% of consumers, from 6% the year before, making AI the third most popular source of business recommendations.
These tools do not have a separate ranking you can buy into. They assemble answers from what they can find and cross-check: your Google Business Profile, your website, directory listings, review text and mentions on other sites. So the work is familiar. Make your entity data identical everywhere. Write service and area pages that answer questions directly. Build reviews whose text describes what you did (“fixed our boiler the same day”). Earn mentions in local media and “best of” lists that AI tools read.
Voice search follows the same logic. Siri reads from Apple Maps, and Google Assistant from the Business Profile, so a voice query often returns a single business. Correct hours and phone numbers matter most there.
A plain warning: nobody can guarantee that ChatGPT or AI Overviews will recommend your business. Anyone who does is guessing. For the deeper work, see AI SEO services, ChatGPT SEO and AI Overviews optimisation.

Compare
Local SEO vs traditional SEO vs Google Ads: which do you need?
Local SEO wins customers near you through the map pack. Traditional SEO wins searches that are not tied to a place. Google Ads buys the top spot today. Many local businesses run local SEO and ads together, then cut ad spend as the map rankings grow.
| Factor | Local SEO | Traditional SEO | Google Ads |
|---|---|---|---|
| Goal | Calls, visits and bookings nearby | Traffic and leads from anywhere | Leads now, on demand |
| Where you show | Map pack, Maps, local organic, AI answers | Organic results, AI Overviews | Ad slots above and in the map pack |
| Time to results | Weeks to months | Months | Days |
| Cost model | Monthly fee | Monthly fee | Pay per click, plus management |
| When you stop | Rankings fade slowly | Rankings fade slowly | Leads stop at once |
| Best for | Clinics, trades, shops, offices | Online stores, SaaS, national brands | Urgent services, launches, testing |
Do it yourself, hire in-house or use an agency?
| Factor | Agency (Digital Magma) | In-house | DIY |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | From ₹14,999 a month | A salary plus tools | Your time |
| Tools | Ahrefs, Semrush and more, included | Paid separately | Mostly free Google tools |
| Policy knowledge | Current with Google changes | Depends on the hire | Easy to break a rule by mistake |
| Best for | Growing and multi-location businesses | Large brands with many branches | One location with a small budget |

Buyer’s guide
Local SEO company checklist: how to choose the right one
A good local SEO company leaves you owning your profile, reports calls rather than vanity rankings, and tells you what it cannot change. Use this checklist with any agency, including us.
Green flags: look for these
- You stay the primary owner of your Google Business Profile
- Reports show calls, direction requests and website clicks
- Map pack rankings tracked for your main searches
- They explain proximity limits on the first call
- A written scope, a fee and a notice period
- Published prices you can compare
Red flags: walk away from these
- Keywords stuffed into your business name
- Fake addresses or virtual offices to rank in new cities
- Bought reviews, review gating or discounts for reviews
- “Guaranteed #1 in Google Maps”
- The agency owns your profile or refuses to share access
- Hundreds of cheap directory submissions sold as a package (Digital Magma never sells these)
Questions to ask any local SEO agency
- Who will own the Google Business Profile and the website data?
- Which platforms besides Google will you manage in my country?
- How do you track map rankings across the areas I serve?
- How will you ask my customers for reviews, and is it within Google’s rules?
- What will you deliver in the first 30, 60 and 90 days?
- What happens to my listings if we stop working together?
What to expect
Local SEO results: timeline and KPIs month by month
Local SEO results often show sooner than national SEO, because profile fixes are picked up quickly. This is a typical path with Digital Magma. Your own timing depends on competition, your starting point and how close you are to the people searching.
Fix the foundations
Audit, profile fixes, category changes, citation clean-up and review requests switched on.
First movement
Rankings usually improve first in the grid points closest to you, and reviews start to arrive steadily.
Map pack gains
Core searches move up across more of the grid as reviews, pages and links add up.
Wider areas
Growth into neighbouring areas and secondary services, with reviews still flowing.
Calls and direction requests
The two numbers closest to revenue for most local businesses, taken from the profile’s own insights.
Map pack positions across a grid
Average and best positions for each core search, compared with the month before.
Reviews, rating and leads
Review count and star rating, website clicks from the profile, and form or WhatsApp leads in GA4.
Avoid these
Local SEO mistakes that get profiles suspended or ignored
Local SEO mistakes fall into two groups: shortcuts that break Google’s rules and get profiles suspended, and neglect that lets rankings slide. Digital Magma fixes both kinds every month.
Keyword-stuffed names
Against Google’s guidelines, which warn that it “could result in the suspension” of the profile. It also invites competitors to report you.
Virtual offices and fake addresses
Google says a virtual office is not eligible for a Business Profile, and P.O. boxes are not accepted. A profile built on one can disappear the day it is reported.
Duplicate profiles
Google’s guidelines say there should be only one profile per business. Duplicates split reviews and can trigger suspension.
Review gating or incentives
Both are banned under Google’s fake-engagement policy, which says incentivised reviews are not allowed and will be removed from Maps.
Changing NAP without the citations
A move or new number updated only on Google leaves dozens of listings pointing to the old details.
Doorway city pages and stale hours
Fifty pages with only the town name swapped add little and risk a spam flag. Holiday hours left unset send customers to a locked door.
What changed
Local SEO in 2026: what changed
Local SEO in 2026 is shaped by four shifts, each backed by published research. Dates and sources are given so you can check them.
Reviews and behaviour gained weight
Whitespark’s 2026 Local Search Ranking Factors report says the biggest changes this year are increased importance of review signals and behavioural signals.
AI became a local recommender
BrightLocal’s 2026 survey found 45% of consumers used ChatGPT or other AI tools for local recommendations, up from 6% the year before.
Opening hours became a top-five factor
“Business is open at time of search” ranks fifth in Whitespark’s 2026 list of map pack factors, so accurate hours now carry real ranking weight.
AI summaries cut clicks
Pew Research Center (July 2025) found Google users clicked a traditional result in 8% of visits when an AI summary appeared, against 15% when none did. That makes the profile, with its call and direction buttons, even more important.

FAQs
Local SEO services: frequently asked questions
How much do local SEO services cost?
Local SEO services from Digital Magma start at ₹14,999 a month plus GST (US$249 a month outside India) for one location or service area. A one-time local SEO audit costs ₹14,999 plus GST, or US$249 outside India. Multi-location and international projects get a custom quote, in USD on request.
What do local SEO services include?
They include Google Business Profile optimisation, review requests and replies, citation clean-up and new listings, location and service-area pages, LocalBusiness schema, local link building and monthly tracking of calls, direction requests and map pack rankings for your main searches.
How long does local SEO take to work?
Profile fixes are often picked up within weeks, and many businesses see first movement in months two to three. Stronger map pack gains usually build over three to six months. Competition and your distance from searchers change the pace, so we give no fixed timeline.
How is local SEO different from regular SEO?
Local SEO targets searchers near you and focuses on the map pack, Google Business Profile, reviews and citations. Regular SEO targets searches with no location and relies more on content and links. Most local businesses need local SEO first, with some regular SEO for their website.
Can you get my business into the Google map pack?
We can make your business a strong candidate by fixing the profile, reviews, listings and pages. Whether you appear for a given searcher also depends on their distance from you, which no one controls. We track progress across a grid so you see where you already win.
Do I need a physical address or storefront for local SEO?
A storefront is not required. Service-area businesses can have a Google Business Profile with the address hidden and service areas listed. You do need a real address where you work, though. Virtual offices and P.O. boxes are not eligible under Google’s guidelines.
Do I need a website for local SEO?
A profile can rank without a website, but a good site helps a lot. Location pages, schema and service content improve relevance, and the website link is where many customers go before they call. We can build or improve one through our website design team.
How do reviews affect local rankings?
Reviews count toward prominence, one of Google’s three local ranking factors. Rating, volume, recency and replies all matter. BrightLocal’s 2026 survey found 97% of consumers read reviews for local businesses, so reviews also decide whether people call once they see you.
Is it allowed to offer customers a discount for a review?
Google’s policy forbids it. Merchants may not offer payment, discounts, free goods or services in exchange for a review, and may not selectively ask only happy customers. You can ask every customer for an honest review without any reward.
My Google Business Profile got suspended. Can you help?
We can review it against Google’s guidelines, fix what caused the suspension, gather proof such as signage photos and business documents, and file the reinstatement request. Nobody can promise reinstatement, and if the profile breaks a rule that cannot be fixed, we will tell you.
Do you handle multi-location businesses and franchises?
Digital Magma manages one profile and one page per real location, a master NAP sheet, franchise rules for local managers, and reports split by branch. Pricing for multi-location work is a custom quote based on the number of locations.
Do you optimise for Apple Maps, Bing and Yelp?
We manage Apple Business Connect and Bing Places for every client, because Siri and Microsoft Copilot read them. Yelp, Yell, Justdial and other country directories are added where your customers use them.
How do I get recommended by ChatGPT or Google AI for local searches?
Keep your business details identical on every platform, collect detailed reviews, publish clear service and area pages, and earn mentions on local sites. AI tools build answers from these sources. No one can guarantee a recommendation, but these steps make you far easier to cite.
Can you guarantee a top-3 map ranking?
We do not guarantee rankings, and you should be wary of anyone who does. Google itself says no one can pay for a better local ranking. What we commit to is the work, in writing, and honest monthly reporting on calls and positions.
Do you do local SEO for businesses outside India?
Digital Magma works with local businesses in the USA, UK, UAE, Canada and Australia as well as India, fully remotely from Noida. We handle each country’s directories, spelling and time zones, and quote international work in USD on request.
